Chise Asukagawa (飛鳥川ちせ, Asukagawa Chise) is a main character in SSSS.DYNAZENON.

Appearance[]

Chise wears a strapless shirt that is held up by a choker, with laced sides. Along with a black skirt with a slit in the right side leg, adorned by a belt. She has a handwarmer on her right arm and a yellow bracelet on her left. She wears strap on red boots. Her red and brown hair is always seen in braids with her bangs out.

Personality[]

Chise seems to be very laid back and almost somehow very energetic and very tired at the same time. She doesn't attend school most of the time and often expresses her dislike toward school. As most children are she can get obnoxious at times, she also likes candy quite a bit and can be often seen eating a lollipop. Due to the fact she skips school pretty much everyday, she could be considered a delinquent of sorts. She spends all of her time with her cousin Koyomi Yamanaka and even wants to be like him.

It's later revealed her aforementioned distate towards the school was because of being constantly left out by every single one of her classmates and that she struggled to make friends up until got dragged into Gauma and co.'s conflict against Kaiju Eugenicists. Not even her talent in drawing intricate tattoo was enough to bring their attention to her, if the flashback was any indication. The desire to participate and fear of being left out for the second time was what ultimately warped one of Kaiju Eugenicists' Kaiju Seeds she found by chance into the loyal and unique Goldburn that soon prove both it and its creator to be valuable assets Gauma and co. ever had. By the end of the series, she has overcome her emotional problems and seemed to be ready to continue enrolling the school once again.

Abilities[]

  • Skilled Artist: Chise displayed great talent in drawing zentangle paintings.

Trivia[]

  • It's implied that Chise's reputation as a black sheep in her school has something to do with zentangle wyvern — the template of Goldburn's form — she painted on her left hand as tattoo; in real life, Japanese culture tends to heavily frown upon tattoos, associating them with people such as the Yakuza. This in turn, gave a bad impression to her peers. Chise herself was apparently aware with such fact, hiding the tattoo underneath her glove throughout the events of the series until she got over her insecurities.
  • Chikai Anzai, Chise's Japanese voice actor, is cousin to Junya Enoki, who voiced Yomogi Asanaka.

Etymology[]

The name Chise Asukagawa (飛鳥川 ちせ) is believed to come from the classical Japanese poem of "飛鳥川の淵瀬" (Asukagawa no Huchise), which illustrates the impermanence of life.
