Lightning Blitz Blade Gridman Sword (電光雷撃剣グリッドマンソード, Denkō Raigeki Ken Guriddoman Sōdo), also known in its initial form Barrier Shield, was an Assist Weapon belonged to Gridman.
History[]
Barrier Sword was created by Ippei Baba as he and Yuka Inoue watch Naoto, who transformed into his Hyper Agent partner and alter-ego Gridman having a hard time stopping Bagira from further damaging food chain in their city. In his hunger as the digital kaiju also stopped the production of his favorite special dog and desperation to help their friend, Ippei devised the Assist Weapon with his favorite food as the design template, allowing Gridman to overpower the kaiju and severed its arms. Before the Hyper Agent could finish it however, Takeshi called it off at the last moment, allowing Gridman to restore computer systems that maintain the food chain with Fixer Beam. Barrier Shield would later gain its namesake configuration along with Thunder Axe from Anosillus and Unison.
Unfortunately Gridman Sword was destroyed along with other Assist Weapons when Khan Digifier invaded Junk's server, and it also only Assist Weapon that not restored alongside the other. Instead, it is seemingly replaced by Samurai・Calibur/Gridman Calibur, a man born from one of Gridman's splintered fragments that may represent his experience with Gridman Sword.
Capabilities[]
Barrier Shield can deflect any attacks thanks to combination of its durability and ultrahigh electromagnet property. Sufficiently powerful attacks however, can knock it off the user's hands. The Assist Weapon also houses equally durable Plasma Blade for Gridman to deflect incoming attacks and slash enemy with. Additionally, a slash of Plasma Blade can release crescent-shaped energy projectile with enough sharpness and firepower to cut off a Mega-Virus' limbs.
After being upgraded by Anosillus and Unison, Barrier Shield gains its namesake greatsword configuration along with Thunder Axe configuration. Gridman Sword configuration possessed similar features as with Plasma Blade albeit in greater scale in terms of power befitting to its size and allowed Gridman to perform finisher called Lightning Thunderbolt that involved him running slash at the target before turning around to deliver another slash for a good measure. Thunder Axe on the other hand, is an axe with oversized blade that can be thrown to cut enemies with through distance and while not shown, can summon lightning storms like Mjölnir as finisher.
