Scheme (策・略, Sakuryaku) is the seventh episode of SSSS.GRIDMAN.

Monster of the week: Diriver

Summary[]

Yuta tries to tell Rikka and Utsumi what he learned from the Kaiju Girl, but they are skeptical of his claims due to how implausible they sound.

Yuta then returns home to find Akane Shinjo waiting for him. He refuses her offer to join her side, and she invites him out for dinner. As they eat, Yuta slowly comes to realize how twisted Akane is when she casually explains how she had fellow students killed just for pissing her off. An alien-looking being in a foreboding black outfit then arrives and introduces himself to Yuta as Alexis・Kerib, explaining how he is the one who transmutes Akane's clay statues of kaiju into physical form.

Suddenly, a kaiju appears above the city, confusing Akane since she didn't create one that day. Yuta returns to the shop and transforms to fight the kaiju, while Akane returns home and finds out Alexis allowed Anti to create his own kaiju to battle Gridman. Akane is infuriated at both Anti and Alexis going behind her back. Meanwhile, Vit combines with Gridman to form Sky Gridman as they take on both Anti and his kaiju. The battle takes them high into the sky where they see that the sky is fake, with the upper boundary of Computer World revealed above. Gridman is able to defeat Anti, but Yuta and his friends are left troubled at these new developments. Akane authorizes Alexis to "discipline" Anti, and he easily overpowers Anti and slashes his face.

Voice Drama[]

  • 7.7: Let's Open Her Backpack As Punishment (罰としてリュック開けよう, Batsu to Shite Ryukku Akeyou)
    • Since Rikka didn't come back from her "toilet break", Namiko and Hass decide to open up her backpack and they find something strange in it.

Trivia[]

  • It explains a lot with the ceiling above the sky revealing that they are all within Computer World, the kaiju battle location from Gridman the Hyper Agent. This is why the kaiju are just walking around the city where the kids live, instead of being in a separate parallel dimension inside the computer. The kids, and the school, and the kaiju, are themselves inside that virtual world. It makes sense now what Kaiju Girl told Yuta about the city not having anything outside of it, since they are living in a simulated reality with limited boundaries. This is why Akane told Alexis in Episode 5 that the field trip outside the city was a problem to her, because it was a location that did not even exist until she needed it that day. [1][2]
  • In the scene where Gridman falls over, the foreground is directly taken and revised from Denkou Choujin Gridman: "boys invent great hero".
  • In the restaurant, the anime playing on the TV features Ultraman Hikari executing Knight Beam Blade, a slashing technique like the slash which Gridman uses later.
  • On Akane's top shelf this episode, there's a lineup of flying saucer-related kaiju.
  • The song that Rikka is listening to is the second ending theme from Inferno Cop. Note also the Wooser plushie in her room.
  • At the school, a voice comes over the PA, paging Kousaku Sakamoto from class 3-C. That's the name of the main character of 1983 anime Stop!! Hibari-kun!. He was voiced by Tōru Furuya, who also portrayed main character Amuro Ray in Mobile Suit Gundam.
